A man is recovering today after being injured in an early morning fire in Port Chester.

Fire officials say flames sparked on the fifth-floor of an apartment complex on Traverse Avenue around 1:45 a.m. 

Residents say blood was all over the stairs as emergency crews helped the victim who was injured trying to break open a window.

Some people who live in the building were able to get back into their apartments a few hours later.

The Red Cross is helping two families who were displaced.

Officials are still looking into the cause of the fire
