A man was shot to death just feet from his apartment in Mount Vernon.
Officials say they were called to an apartment building on Washington Street around 1:30 a.m. They say 24-year-old Trevon Boswell was coming home from Brooklyn with his brother when he was shot in the hallway.
A family friend tells News 12 that Boswell and his family moved to the building just months ago. They say he attended a rap showcase last night and returned just after midnight. The friend believes the shooter was waiting in the hallway.
Boswell, who is the father of a 5-year-old son, was shot and brought upstairs to his apartment, where his family called 911.
News 12 is told Boswell's brother was not hurt in the shooting.
Mayor Richard Thomas released a statement Monday that said, "We cannot allow violence to tear apart families and communities."
It is still unclear if he was targeted and what the alleged gunman looks like.
