A man accused of driving high on cough medicine and killing an 87-year-old man pleaded not guilty to criminally negligent homicide charges Tuesday.
Mohd Shreqein, 20, is charged in connection to the death of Anthony Viero. Authorities say Shreqein was high on cough medicine when he swerved into oncoming traffic and hit Viero?s car head-on in March.
Shreqein would not speak with reporters as he left the courthouse, but his attorney issued a statement.
?We've entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf, and the case is going to proceed through its normal cycle,? said Ann Bianchi, Shreqein?s attorney. ?I have no further comment on it.?
Shreqein was released on $25,000 bond and is due back in court in October. He will be staying with family in Pleasantville until then.
