Some big changes could be coming to the Galleria Mall in White Plains with news that a national corporation is interested in purchasing the property.
Mayor Thomas Roach has not identified the potential buyer, but confirms there is an interested party looking to revamp the 35-year-old retail space. "A deal is in the works and I am very excited about that because I wanted for some time to see some changes in the way the current Galleria operates," says Roach.
Simon Property Group, which owns the upscale Westchester Mall, also owns the Galleria Mall and wouldn't comment on any potential sale.
Roach says the deal is in the discussion phase so right now there is no timetable. But the mayor is hoping for a transformation of the aging retail space that he says will be a good thing for people who live and work in the city.
"How wonderful would it be if the Galleria had beautiful stores for people to look in or cafes to shop in. It would really make the experience to downtown be really welcoming," says Marsha Gordon, of the Westchester Business Council.
