A state Supreme Court judge Tuesday invalidated a Yonkers City Council vote that paved the way for the Ridge Hill development plan.
Last December, a divided Yonkers City Council lowered the number of votes needed to approve the Ridge Hill project from five to four. Now, the judge has concluded that the City Council was required to hold a public hearing before changing a zoning rule, leaving the $600 million project in danger of falling through.
The proposed project is a mix of office, retail and housing that will be placed on 80 acres between the Sprain Brook Parkway and Interstate 87 in Yonkers. Yonkers Mayor Phil Amicone disagreed with the judge?s decision and plans to fight it. Yonkers City Council President Chuck Lesnick says the lawsuit was not about stopping Ridge Hill, but about making sure problems that would arise from the project would be resolved first.
