It is National Tequila Day and one Long Island company uses home-grown ingredients to make some special drinks.
Kat Hantas, co-founder of 21 Seeds Tequila, says she knows what a good cocktail should taste like.
"You should have a perfect cocktail just like you should have a perfect cup of coffee," says Hantas. " One tablespoon of simple syrup and one tablespoon of lime juice -- that's it."
Hantas finds inspiration and products from East End farms and her own backyard. She infuses fruits and other fresh locally grown ingredients like mint and jalapeños right into her tequila.
Hantas says 21 Seeds was born in her Watermill kitchen because of her need to find an alternative to wine.
"I wasn't able to drink it anymore and I really wanted to enjoy my cocktail -- I didn't want to drink for just drinking sake," she says.
The bottles are sold in liquor stores across the country. The tequila is also served in many bars and restaurants.
