A Westchester County woman is incorporating her Jamaican heritage into her business.

Sheryl Hatwood starts her day in a small Mamaroneck kitchen, crafting her special handmade juices, one bottle at a time.

"My process is informed and tested by Cornell," Hatwood said. "Everything that is in my products, you can pronounce, you can recognize [and] you can spell, which is definitely important to me because you have to know what's going into your body."

It all started back in 2025, when she decided to take her health into her own hands. She turned to her Jamaican roots for inspiration, using key ingredients like sorrel, ginger and turmeric to make special drinks.

"I was on a wellness journey," Hatwood explained. "I want[ed] to make better choices, so I went back into my traditional roots, and I just started developing some staple beverages within our culture...with Jamaican culture, nature has already provided for us. So why not use what's in nature to continue to supplement our health? People were like, 'Oh, you should sell this. You should sell this. You should sell this.' So, fast-forward, I decided to sell it because the truth is about wellness."

Hatwood officially launched Truce Natural Living a year later, which now has growing her customers online and in person at New Rochelle's Zen Shu Spa and the New Rochelle Farmers Market.

"I spoke to the owner of the New Rochelle market, and he said my beverages keep selling out," she said. "He told me to get ready because it's going to take off."

Hatwood is grateful to have developed such a following in just a short amount of time. She now looks forward to continuing to share her Jamaican heritage and the importance of health and wellness, with others.

"It's so rewarding to know that I've created something that people honestly can connect with -- the story and the benefits," she said.

In addition to the New Rochelle locations, customers from all over can purchase juice products from Truce Natural Living on its website.
