Right on the shoreline of New Rochelle sits Italian staple
Patsy’s Pizzeria. Originally opening in Harlem in 1933, the franchise expanded 9 years ago. It now offers its unique dishes to residents and visitors in Westchester County.
"Everybody asks us, ‘What's the secret to the store in New Rochelle?’ I know the secret is truly the passion for our craft," said Susana Reuss, the general manager of the New Rochelle location.
That passion gets put into the restaurant’s dishes, putting a twist on each one to create meals and experiences definitive to not only Italy, but also the Hudson Valley.
"Being the only Patsy's overlooking the water, we have an extended menu and a lot of seafood," said Reuss. "This is not only through the summer. You can find it throughout the year...We really focus on a full menu, which highlights fresh ingredients, seasonal ingredients and ingredients from the Hudson Valley. So there is variety for everybody."
One thing that remains the same between each Patsy’s Pizzeria location is its famous pizza menu, but even the main attraction gets a bit of an upgrade.
"We offer a specialty pie every week," said Reuss. "Depending on the season or the fresh ingredients, we change the style of pizza."
No matter what customers end up ordering, the staff at Patsy’s Pizzeria is proud to have developed a sense of camaraderie with the community.
"Whether you come for the first time, for a glass of wine or a cocktail or just for a full meal…we try to make every single customer a repeat customer," said Reuss. "They love the ambiance."
That camaraderie seems to be returned, as customers voted Patsy’s Pizzeria Westchester Magazine’s Best Restaurant on the Sound Shore for 2024. It is the second consecutive year the restaurant has received the honor.
"it is really an honor for us: for the staff [and] for management," said Reuss. "A big thank you to our loyal customers who recognize the effort and the hard work we're putting in."
