One heart after another, Teresa Weber works on her latest batch of cookies. The recipe is simple: a whole lot of love. What once was a simple holiday tradition ended up turning into her small business -- All Heart Baking Co.
" I used to make cookies every year for the holidays," Weber explained. "Every time I'd bring them in…my colleagues and friends would all say to me, 'You should sell these. These are really good.'"
Even though she was apprehensive at first, Weber eventually realized spreading love and positivity through her baking was what she was meant to do.
" Instead of saying 'no,' I said, 'Well, what if?'" she said. "As soon as I said, 'What if?', I started being flooded with ideas about how to make something like this happen. So, it was never a dream necessarily, but I almost felt compelled to do it once I started thinking about it...I had already thought about making the cookies all heart shaped [when] I was out to dinner with a former colleague. We talked about something completely different, and she said, 'Teresa…you're just all heart.' That's actually how the name of the company came about."
About a year and a half later, Weber continues to share her cookies with customers from all over the New York metro area, each made with love from her heart.
"I will have customers track me down to find the cookies because they're not like other cookies. So, I'm really excited that people are reacting so well to them," she said. " I had a customer who bought some of our Love Bites…and then I got a call about 20 minutes later, and it was this woman asking me if I would have these cookies on my website. She was like, ‘I just took a bite of this cookie, and it was the best thing I've ever put in my mouth’...it just made me smile because she was so happy about it. "
Weber is also proud to say her cookies are made in Westchester County, and works with other businesses in the area to make them the best that they can be.
"I'm really proud of the fact that I'm from Mount Vernon, and I love being able to tell people, 'Yes, these cookies are made in Mount Vernon, New York,'" she said. "We [also] source all of our honey from Fly Honey Farms, which is located in Tarrytown...and they source from apiaries across the Hudson Valley. They're very much focused on bee education and ethical sourcing of the honey."
Weber's cookies can be bought on her website or at local pop-ups throughout the Hudson Valley and New York City metro area. Her next in-person appearance will be on Friday, Valentine’s Day, at Matters Coffee in Croton-on-Hudson.
