This week’s Made in Connecticut is about the story of one man's major league dreams that became all about bats.
Pete Tucci is the founder of Tucci Lumber Bats in Norwalk. The company, which has gained popularity in the past few years, makes baseball bats and sporting equipment using a majority of maple or birch.
The Norwalk High School grad started the company in 2010 after playing in the minor leagues for the Toronto Blue Jays, the San Diego Padres and the New York Mets. One time while he was at bat, Tucci took a swing and felt it crack. He broke a bone in his hand and ruptured two tendons. By 2002, Tucci's career with Major League Baseball was over.
Tucci's wife Amy suggested he make bats. He took a chance and hasn't looked back since.
Today, more than 100 major leaguers use Tucci Lumber Bats, making Tucci the fifth most used bat in the MLB.
