The longtime public safety commissioner in White Plains says he will leave his post at the end of the year.

David Chong said Mayor-elect Justin Brasch told him the day after Election Day that he thought it was time for a change.

Chong, who has served as commissioner for 16 years, said he was shocked by the decision, especially since crime has been drastically reduced. He previously served with the NYPD. Chong has also battled 9/11-related cancer.

Brasch could not be reached for comment.
