Mark Cassata told News 12 crews that Monday will be the last day that he served as the waterfront captain at Oakland Beach.
He said he started working there as a lifeguard 50 years ago.
Cassata said he's stepping away from the job because he's moving out West.
He shared what he'll miss most about working at the beach.
"The salt air and working with all these guys," Cassata said. "I've been with some of these people for decades."
Cassata's co-workers said they'll miss him when he leaves.
