As communities in multiple states recover from Hurricane Helene, some community members in Westchester are stepping up to help.
“There’s stuff that all of us could be doing, even though we’re hundreds of miles away,” says Joe Parrello, a Harrison police officer.
Parrello is looking for donations to bring to North Carolina next week. He’s looking for donations of water bottles, cleaning supplies, flashlights, baby wipes and more.
“My main goal is to just get the resources down to Carolina and then give it to the people who are relaying to the effort where it’s needed the most,” says Parrello.

Central Hudson Gas and Electric is also helping by sending 30 crew members and staff to Georgia to help restore power. Crews will be arriving Thursday night but it’s unknown right now how long they will be there for.
“They will be going in with local crews who will kind of show them the lay of the land, they’ll be assessing damages and making repairs as needed,” says Joe Jenkins, a spokesperson for Central Hudson. “It could be anywhere from a few days to up to a week and it all depends on their ability to help facilitate a safe and efficient restoration.”
