A local firefighter is getting ready to trade in his gear for a pair of boxing gloves.

Yonkers firefighter Christopher Paladino is competing in an FDNY boxing event next week at Madison Square Garden.

"We do a lot of training, a lot of training. We've been training live five, six days a week," said Paladino.

He'll be competing in the 2026 International Battle of the Badges. He's facing off against a detective from Texas.

"It's going to be a great show," Paladino said.

Proceeds will support multiple causes, but one in particular is the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. It aims to help first responders and veterans by providing mortgage-free homes.

"Our whole job is to give back to the community," said Paladino. "So, being able to put ourselves out there and donate to charities is a big thing.

He does his training at Yonkers Knockouts. A gym that works with underprivileged kids.

"We're here inspiring kids from throughout the community and really making a difference. It's so much bigger than boxing and I'm so proud to be a part of it," he said.

For Paladino, every time he steps into the ring, he's also showing up for those living with diabetes.

"I was diagnosed very young. If any kids see what I'm doing and it inspires them to chase big dreams, that's bigger than any win I could ever have," he explained.

The Battle of the Badges is taking place on March 6 at Madison Square Garden.

Doors open at 7.
