A Mount Vernon man is charged in the murder of a grandmother who lived across the street from him.
Police say they arrested Lloyd Lewis, a neighbor of Emma Gruber.
Gruber's body was discovered in February at the bottom of her basement stairs in her Mount Vernon home on South Sixth Avenue.
Police believe the 85-year-old may have been killed after walking in on thieves. They think the crooks were stealing her water meter to resell the copper inside.
Gruber's friends at the Doles Center senior center say the past six months of not knowing who was responsible for her death were difficult.
Lewis is expected in court Wednesday.
