Municipalities and organizations across the Hudson Valley are canceling events ahead of a powerful nor’easter expected to impact the region through the weekend.
In Sleepy Hollow, village officials have canceled Oktoberfest and the community's street fair as forecasters warn of deteriorating weather conditions. The village is among several communities taking precautionary measures before the storm arrives.
Yonkers, Irvington, Croton-on-Hudson, Ardsley, Eastchester and other municipalities have also canceled planned weekend events. News 12 Meteorologist Julian Seawright says some areas could see wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph as the storm moves through the region from Friday into Sunday.
Coastal communities are expected to experience stronger impacts from the storm than inland locations. Officials across the region say the cancellations are intended to keep residents safe as heavy rain, strong winds and hazardous conditions move in.
It is not yet known whether Sleepy Hollow plans to reschedule its Oktoberfest and street fair.
