Heavy rain, strong wind gusts which could cause some power outages as well as slick road conditions and just take your time over the next several hours because we are looking at the rain getting steadier and heavier as the afternoon and evening progress. Going to see those winds pick up periods of rain and then windswept soaking rain which could cause areas of flooding, especially from Bergen County down to Middlesex County and then more of that rain the early morning hours, maybe even a few snowflakes mixing in towards the Delaware water gap into Sussex, Warren Hunton and Morris County. So definitely take your time because the roads are going to be slick mornings on 12 on Monday. We'll be starting at 4:30 a.m. because of the inclement weather and we're just going to be dealing with the aftermath. Lots of rain is in the forecast. Look at this area in yellow northeast Jersey could see that scattered flash flooding really. That shot is everywhere across the garden state. Looking at underpasses roads, streams drains all could overflow their banks as the system pushing on in from our west going to see lots of rain already moving in from Pennsylvania, a few scattered showers here and there as we are going to be seeing this continue, even some thunder and lightning already popping up throughout the tri state area. And that's only going to increase as the day goes on with 1 to 3 inches of rain. Locally, higher amounts along the Jersey shore with gusts up to 30 to 40 MPH. So trash cans could be knocked over, secure them holiday decorations, anchor them down inflatables. Might want to have them deflated too because we are looking at this heavy rain from the afternoon and evening and they become more widespread overnight. So definitely take your time as you go into the early morning hours, maybe even a few flakes up to the north of the I 80 Corridor, then things cool down forties and drier into next week.

Welcome back when you hear that sound, you know what that means. We're on storm watch with storm watch team, meteorologist Christy Campana. So Christy, we know the rain is coming, but that's not all right. Yeah. No, we can't rule out any gusty winds either. And those two combined really create for a messy kind of system that's headed our way. And like we said, 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected and that majority is gonna be overnight tonight and that can create some problems for your morning commute if there is localized flooding, which like we said, we can't rule out, but let's go straight to it and see, you know, an hour by hour where the system is coming in and this is two o'clock today. So we see the system just approaching here for the afternoon and we could see some batches of heavy downpours throughout the afternoon. But the majority of this is going to be a little bit later. This is 3 p.m. We see this light to moderate rain, these yellow colors really on the outskirts of the city and then maybe a break here and there by around five o'clock your dinner time. But then the majority of this hits around 8 to 10 o'clock and we see this orange, yellow and red and this is our more moderate, steady and even heavy rain that is headed our way and that's to continue overnight for your overnight hours. And that majority of it just past 1 a.m. two AM, we see it start to get slightly lighter around then and then by 6 a.m. we see it really start to push off and push out to the ocean and it clears up just a bit. We can't rule out a lingering shower until around seven or 8 a.m. And then it clears up really by mid to late morning and we could see even the sun come back out around your mid to mid morning to afternoon before the sunset, which is a good thing, but that flooding can still stick around and that comes with these gusty winds. So sustained winds of around 15 to 20 miles an hour and this is 8, 30 twenties we're seeing and then uh change in direction. This becomes a north wind as it's passing and we could see up to 3040 miles an hour. So really take anything in outdoors and just be cautious through the next couple of days. And let's take a look at 10 day forecast. We are in storm watch overnight. We're gonna see heavy rain, gusty winds and that breezy and those gusty winds continue a bit into your Tuesday. It's gonna be breezy but the sun is out and temperatures are back to seasonable for the rest of the week.

For another look at your hyper local forecast as we continue to watch the storm heading into our area. And Alex, I'm seeing some parts on this map showing that snow is expected in some parts of the Hudson Valley on the back end of it, Nadia. Tomorrow morning, we will have a couple of flakes fly and yeah, even some accumulating snow weight of the north and west. But let's first talk about the rain coming in our direction this afternoon. It's still tucked away pretty far to our south. And so we're good here in the Hudson Valley for the morning. We have some areas of fog, but we also have some areas of sunshine. So we'll take it. And certainly if you have any plans before noon, you're good to go. Wind is pretty light for the first part of the day. You would have no idea that a storm was coming except for the fact that it feels a little different out there, it feels a lot warmer than it usually is. This time of the year, we even have temperatures in the fifties in some spots this morning that above average for the afternoon when the afternoon arrives. Now we're starting to kick in some showers. This is two o'clock, four o'clock. Look, we've got some rain passing through at six o'clock still and we continue to see the rain pretty much all through the evening. Some of the worst of the rain will be eight to about midnight or so tonight, it's also quite breezy, 20 to 30 mile per hour wind gusts. You factor in several hours of rain and now you've got some trees coming down, release some branches and that could knock out power. Here's four o'clock in the morning. If you're a really early commuter, you're still dodging rain. And if you're in Sullivan and Ulster County, the high elevations of Ulster County, we're looking at cold enough temperatures for a few snowflakes and then a few flakes will mix in 6 a.m. But at this point, things are drying out. It does stay breezy pretty much all day Monday. In fact, some of the worst wind will be with the sunshine Monday afternoon. I wanna show you two different models here. This is one model showing you the rain all the way up to midnight about an inch or so in White Plains and Yonkers and then it picks up to two inches but notice how close we are to that really heavy rain over Connecticut and Long Island. This other model actually will bring in some of that heavier rain off to our east. I'm gonna show it to you coming up on the other side of the break. But I also wanna show you the winter storm warning in effect for the higher elevations of Ulster County and the advisory in effect for Sullivan. I thought that was kind of important to get to. So I will show you the difference in the rain totals coming up. But a little more good news once we get through Monday, it's totally dry for work week.

Thanks, Nadia. Ok. Look outside that page 57. The birds are flying really fast with that upper level wind. We're going to make our way to gusts up to 40 MPH as we close off the evening tonight. Some gusts 45 maybe as high as 5560 MPH out there in Suffolk County. And yes, we do have the thunderstorm icon because we have rumbles of thunder happening with some of this rain as well. Look at 4 p.m. Temperatures are actually climbing as the sun. It's ready to set to about 60. The wind is starting to pick up and it's kind of just steady around 30 MPH. This wind gusting at times up to 40 for the evening. There'll be a little bit of a break. I would say around 6 to 8 o'clock or so where there is some rain, but the really pouring kind of wet kind of weather that pushes over us. I'd say 89 o'clock tonight, all the way through your overnight temperatures will cr behind this. Look at this front, this is the gust front that we're watching really intense wind by three o'clock or so, it's past Nassau County. So it's before three o'clock for Nassau in Western Suffolk. And then the temperature just plummets from sixties to forties almost instantly while you're sleeping tonight. So, let's show you the hour by hour. We have a south wind coming in all the way through. 10 o'clock. Hempstead gets hit by that front at about 20 mile per hour. Winds gusts up to 40 then the wind shifts to the north and it's gonna be breezy all day on Monday. Riverhead. Look at how much longer you are in those sustained winds of 30 MPH coming in from the southwest until 3 a.m. Then wind turns to the north that front passes through. Here's what the wind gust looks like at 10 p.m. About 40 MPH. We do have that red indicating 50 mile per hour winds around midnight and then it pushes out. Now, the worst of it is gonna be east of Islip in Nassau County. Your risk for wind is lower but you do still have that flood risk as well. So at the very least we have to watch out for some widespread flooding on local roads. The usual trouble spots for a morning commute will have most of its rain kind of taper off, but it'll still have a few showers along the way. The wind will knock off the rain by mid-morning, but it's gonna stay breezy all day Monday, the rest of the work week is dry.

Heavy rain, strong wind gusts as well as flooding all possible with the realm of possibility for even some power outages and some snowflakes for the higher elevations heading on into your Monday morning. Lots of stuff going on across western Connecticut. You can see the moisture already moving in with showers and downpours on the way as we are looking at these temperatures peaking into the fifties, rainy conditions, lots of wind, lots of impacts. Let's break it all down. We're going to be seeing periods of rain, gusty winds and even those power outages could start after sunset. So through eight o'clock going to start to see the weather pick up overnight, that's when we're going to be seeing the heaviest rain soaking floods, potentially as well as gusts up to 30 to 40 MPH, especially along an east of 80. And then things are going to be drying up as we head into the morning hours still blustering. Maybe even a chance of some snow flakes on the back side of the storm for the morning commute. So this is what we're looking at plenty of rain pushing in from our south and west, the heaviest going into Pennsylvania and Jersey and we'll be moving on into Western Connecticut as we go into the rest of the afternoon and evening overnight, it's going to see the heaviest rain with the chance for flooding and power edges 2 to 4 inches along and south of 84 to the north 1 to 3 inches potentially. So, watch out for the flooding if you do see any of the high water turn around, don't drown. And especially with those gusts up to 20 to 35 MPH over the next 24 to 48 hours, those showers and downpours getting steadier and heavier through the afternoon and evening. And then as you go over night, 9, 10 o'clock is when we're gonna be seeing the heaviest rain with the strongest winds, hail, thunder, lightning all in the realm of possibility as well with a chance of even a few snowflakes, slick road conditions on the 78 connector and north of 84 as we're going to be seeing those temperatures dry up lower into the forties and a few flurries even onto Wednesday, more on News twelve.com and on the App.

Live Life Better: How ‘Kimberly Akimbo’ star Alli Mauzey balances work and motherhood

Well, she's the stars of one of the hottest shows on Broadway. Ali Mazzy plays Patty Lava and Kimberly Kimbo. That's right. It's an emotionally demanding role where she plays a mother dealing with her daughter's rare disease. Now off stage, she is the mom herself balancing this Broadway career while also raising her son. Yeah. And I had a chance to catch up with her on the Great white way to find out how she manages it all, all I'm so excited about this play because it's sort of like everyone's family in a sort of way. We all have a little bit of a dysfunctional family. What did you do to prepare to play a mother who is dysfunctional herself on this play? Well, that's the hard thing about an actor. Like I as a can see it and see that's so prickly. I don't know if I would choose those words, but I think the job as an actor is you have to find like, where is your character coming from? Um where's the heart of your character? Um Being a mom myself. I don't envy her position in life with her daughter being um sick and not knowing when her last day is. So for me, that's where I kind of started. I was like, my heart breaks for her and that, that was kind of like my in a little bit. Can you talk about some of the challenges that she deals with in this play? Well, Patty has a lot of physical challenges but she's got casts on her arms at one point. You know, she has a leg brace. I mean, she's got physical challenge in that way. Now, I think you can make the argument. Are they real? Because she is somebody who needs a lot of attention. I think that's her way of coping with her sick daughter a little bit too. Um, you know, she's also about to give birth to another child. She's very pregnant in this show. Is it sort of freeing that, you know, because sometimes Broadway is all about the looks and you have to look a certain way, fit a certain type. But here you can pretty much eat what you want because you have a, a fake belly and let me tell you I sit back stage and I eat whatever I want. There's something about I snack so much doing this show backstage. How do you balance the lifestyle of being a full time mom, a full time actress, all the other initiatives you have going on in your life. Yeah. I mean, now it's fun. It's summer time. I've been so excited for summer. My kid isn't enough school. I know. Some parents, like, that's like a funny thing. Right. They're always home. I know. But for me, like my hours so, like, you know, my husband and I will take, or one of us will take. Usually, let's be honest, it's my husband taking him to school because I go to bed late at night because I have a job at night. But, you know, if I don't get up at 6 30 in the morning to say hi to my kid in the morning, I don't see him until he gets out of school, which is like 2 30 three o'clock at the end of the day. And then I have like a window of time in the afternoon before I actually have to go to work. So we don't have the same hours. Um, so I, and for me, I've been so excited for summer so we can actually, like, go out and do fun things in the city. And, um, I don't have to try to fit it in with like a few hours. I try to, um, bring him to the theater when I can because, you know, when we first came back, it was still kind of like, um, coming out of the pandemic. And so we couldn't always have people backstage and I didn't understand and we're like, mommy has to go to work. Right. But I finally get to bring him back stage in my dressing room and we just hang out and we have a meal and he actually like one day I was like mom. Thank you for inviting me. And I wanna be like, you are welcome every time. You are welcome every time in my room. But he's happier when he's like, in my work life. I'm happier if I can incorporate him in my, my work life. Um That makes me a better actress on stage. Well, I know your six year old has not seen the play yet, but those out there who haven't seen it. How would you do? Well, I think at the end of it and the theme I was like, what do you want to do with your time on this planet right now? You know, we don't know how much time we have and how do we want to spend our lives? And I think like, that's how you leave the theater. You really root for our main character, Kim, who doesn't have that much time left. And every time I explain this show you're just like, oh, gosh, this sounds like very serious and heavy. But David Lindsay Bear who wrote it is one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life and you laugh at us. It's more funny than just like, oh God. I mean, you have these Oh God moments but like, it's more funny than anything I think. You know, you can, I think it's sadly relatable sometimes when you talk about like we're all kind of like dysfunctional. Yeah, it's one of those places where you laugh, you cry, you get all the emotions in and you leave thinking about how to make your life better. So continue the amazing work.
