Hollywood's permanent home on the Hudson is almost ready for its closeup, as a major movie studio is about to open in Yonkers.
Lionsgate, the iconic Hollywood studio behind "Angel Has Fallen" and "Rambo: Last Blood," is near completion of phase 1 construction on a massive production facility on the site of the former Otis Elevator property.
The campus will consist of three large soundstages.
News 12 has been told when completed, the Lionsgate studios in Yonkers will be one of the largest built modern production campuses, with over 1 million square feet of production space.
Andy Lawrence's cousin is a producer for the California-based entertainment company.
"The company is amazing. So, for them coming into Yonkers, Yonkers should get down and thank them all. They're going to be the most unbelievable thing for Yonkers. If this studio is anything like my cousin's movies, this studio is going to be a homerun," he says.
Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano agrees.
"Lionsgate coming to Yonkers is a game-changer for our city," he says. "They plan to come back to the idea with some greater expansions very, very soon, which could mean as much as 2,000 new jobs."
Despite concerns by some about inspection approvals, city officials say all is being worked out.
Phase 1 of the Lionsgate studios is expected to open in November.
