A very close call with lightning was caught on camera in New City.

It happened Wednesday afternoon when strong storms rolled through the area.

Matt Krass says he saw the storm clouds rolling in and wanted to walk his dog before the rain came down.

That's when the lightning and thunder came crashing in over him.

"Maybe the loudest sound I ever heard in my life. Bolt of lightning and thunder instantaneously just rang out and we both recoiled and that thunder just reverberated and it seemed to go on forever," Krass recalled.

Krass says no damage was left behind.

But that's not the case just down the road at High Tor State Park.

Lightning struck two trees not far from the pool.

State park police say three people felt the effects of the strike but they were not seriously hurt.
