A longtime Monroe firefighter has passed away.

Fire officials say John F. Kerwan Jr. passed away on Sunday, July 31 at the age of 82.

Kerwan served more than 30 years in the Monroe Fire Department and was an active member of Monroe’s fire police right up to the time of his death. He was a life member of the Mombasha Fire Company.

Calling hours have been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 22, 2022 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Smith, Seaman & Quackenbush Inc. Funeral Homes in Monroe.

Memorial buntings have been placed on both firehouses and flags have been dropped to half-staff.
