Legislators press utilities on March nor’easter response, future plans

Utility company officials were in the hot seat again Monday over their response to the March nor'easters that left hundreds of thousands of people in the dark for days, as well as their plans to build a better storm response plan.
The hearing with Westchester County legislators comes on the heels of several public meetings in the three months following multiple nor'easters and another severe storm in May.
Con Edison and NYSEG representatives say they are fixing the problem. However, NYSEG says it is not reimbursing customers for the expenses they incurred during the storms.
County legislators have pressured utility companies to develop several solutions to improve damage assessment, communication between customers and municipalities and quicker response times from field crews and mutual aid.

“Now is the time to get things in place with better response times, better information to the community and homeowners,” says Minority Leader John Testa.
Legislators say preparing for the storms before they hit is key, and they will continue to meet with utility companies.
