Legislator Shimsky plans to challenge veteran state assemblyman in Democratic primary
A veteran Westchester County legislator says she will challenge a veteran state assemblyman in next June's Democratic primary.
MaryJane Shimsky announced her candidacy against Thomas Abinanti in the 92nd District.
She said progressive, proactive leadership is needed to advocate and deliver as the battle against the resurgent pandemic continues.
She says she believes she has the experience and commitment to be that voice in Albany.
Shimsky, who was just elected to her sixth term, is the current majority leader.
Abinanti, who survived a primary challenge last year, is also in his sixth term. He said right now he is concerned about getting legislation he sponsored signed into law.
