Legislator fires back about possible plans to move county services from Newburgh
News 12 reported last week that Orange County officials were considering pulling multiple county offices due to alleged problems with the local government and ongoing concerns about crime.

10h agoThere are new concerns about possible plans to relocate Orange County services from the City of Newburgh.
As News 12 previously reported, Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus said he was considering moving the Department of Motor Vehicle and other county services from Newburgh because of ongoing concerns about crime and what he said are problems with city government.
County Legislator Kevindaryan Lujan represents Newburgh and told News 12 that approach is wrong and doesn’t help.
“Let’s talk about root causes. Let’s come to the table and talk about housing, jobs, transportation and what we’re doing about wraparound services, and making sure that the city of Newburgh is not the only community that helps individuals in need," said Lujan.
The City of Newburgh has not responded to News 12's requests for information or comment about the county’s concerns or possible plans.
Neuhaus said the city no longer sends a representative to the county's monthly mayors' meeting, and that he has heightened safety concerns after several transit busses were shot at in March and a double shooting just a few blocks away from DMV last month.
News 12 was told locations in the Town of Newburgh are being considered, and that county leaders will discuss whether to relocate county services from the city in the coming weeks.
