Local leaders are calling for the state to do more after a series of wrong-way crashes throughout the Hudson Valley.

The latest incident occurred last week on the Bronx River Parkway when a New York City man who was allegedly under the influence injured six people. Despite the state's efforts to address the problem in 2015, crashes have kept happening.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner tells News 12 that the state Department of Transportation needs to adopt wrong-way technology. "I would like to see rumble strips, fog lines, sensor strips on cameras. I think they could use modern technology," he says.

The New York state Department of Transportation said in a letter that it already made some efforts to prevent these type of crashes, like adding wrong way sings on exit ramps. However, some local officials say it is not enough.

"I believe the signs that say ‘do not enter’ are not sufficient enough," Dr. Ross Fishman says. Fishman runs a program for impaired and distracted drivers.
