Monday is the deadline to apply for New York's Homes in Orange County repair program for homes damaged by flash flooding on July 9. But some local lawmakers say homeowners should still apply, even if they don't meet income requirements.

The state program provides grants to low-income homeowners to repair flood damage. But Assemblyman Chris Eachus says even those above income thresholds should still apply.

Eachus says he expects Gov. Kathy Hochul to soon change the income rules to include more people. He says Hochul indicated that when announcing the program last month.

Resident Ann Maset doesn't qualify now but hopes to get federal aid. Eachus says the Federal Emergency Management Agency aid will likely take months.

He's urging people to keep applying to show the need. That could help more people get state and federal assistance.
