A Yonkers lawmaker is leading the push to get rid of a toll plaza on the New York State Thruway.
Councilman Mike Breen called the Yonkers toll plaza a nuisance, a headache and an unnecessary expense.
"The toll throws all the traffic onto Central Avenue and causes traffic jams every afternoon," said Breen.
Breen is spearheading an effort in the City Council to get the state to remove the $1.25 toll booths once and for all.
There have been other attempts by Yonkers lawmakers over the past 20 years to have the state-owned and operated toll plaza be moved.
The Yonkers City Council is expected to vote on the toll plaza resolution next week.
The toll plaza reportedly generates more than $1 million in revenue each year.
