A state lawmaker has promised funding to a Yonkers school after seeing firsthand the conditions.

Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie pledged $1 million to Roosevelt High School. Heastie visited the school Thursday and when he saw the state of the school's football field he knew something needed to be done.

Heastie wants to find other ways to help the school, which is on the list of struggling schools. "Whatever the students' needs are is a priority particularly so that we can get the high school off the list, and this high school seems to be on the way," says Heastie.

The superintendent says he hopes with more money JV teams can be restored.
