Westchester County Executive George Latimer signed new legislation Tuesday to phase out single-use plastics.
Under the new law, no food service can provide single-use plastic silverware or condiment packets to customers unless asked.
Officials say the legislation will not only help the environment but also reduce costs for local businesses.
Official say the bill will not affect the way meals are served to people in senior care or in hospitals.
