Police in Highland Falls are investigating a large amount of donated meat that was stolen from the Sacred Heart Church food pantry.
A representative for the parish tells News 12 they noticed half of the meat they had slated for families in need was missing on Wednesday and that they called the police. They say there was no sign of forced entry and that so far, it’s unclear how it happened or who took it.
Residents are saddened by the theft.
“Heartbroken. I’m worried about our world and honestly, worried about our town,” says Rebecca Stewart. “I’ve been that person excited to see if they have meat and I’ve been the person disappointed when there’s none.”
Parish representatives say they've seen an increased number of families in need of food over the past few years and that meat was donated by the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. They say they’re “disheartened” by the incident.
News 12 reached out to the Highland Falls Police Department for information but hasn’t heard back.
