Man fatally shot in Port Jervis; at large suspect considered ‘armed and dangerous’

State and local law enforcement agencies are searching for a suspect connected to a deadly overnight shooting in Port Jervis.

According to Port Jervis City police, officers are working alongside New York State Police and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office to locate 26‑year‑old David Rombousek, who has been identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting on Hammond Street.

Authorities responded in the early morning hours Sunday after receiving multiple reports of gunfire near 145–147 Hammond Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 43‑year‑old man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body following what police described as a disturbance. The victim was transported to Bon Secours Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Police have issued a public safety advisory – warning the community that the suspect is armed and dangerous and urging residents not to approach him.

Anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts can call 911 or contact the Port Jervis City Police Department at 845‑856‑5101.
