Several beaches on Lake Carmel have reopened following an algae buildup earlier this week.
The Putnam County Health Department shut down five beaches in Kent on July 13 to eliminate the excess algae in the water.
Town officials report that beaches 2, 3 and 4 are now open to the public.
They say that septic tank runoff may be to blame.
There is still no word on when the other two beaches will reopen.
