Firefighters in LaGrange made a dramatic rescue on the water
over the weekend when temperatures dipped into dangerously cold conditions.
Several homeowners called 911 to report that a dog had fallen
through the ice. As firefighters responded, two men tried to rescue the dog
with a small rowboat and ended up in the water.
Firefighters wearing ice rescue suits went into the water and
tied a rope to the boat, allowing firefighters and troopers on the shore to
pull the boat back to safety.
The two men and the dog got out of the water safely and are
doing OK.
Firefighters said that “no ice is ever truly safe” and to call
911 if an animal falls into icy waters.
