Kwanzaa celebrations kick off across the Hudson Valley

Kwanzaa celebrations got under way in the Hudson Valley and worldwide yesterday.
The weeklong holiday honoring universal African-American heritage and culture, is observed from Dec. 26 to Jan. 1 each year.
Kwanzaa focuses on seven principles, including unity, purpose and faith. African foods such as millet, spiced pepper balls and rice are often served. A candle is lit each night representing the seven principles of Kwanzaa.
