A defenseless kitten was trapped inside a storm drain in Orangeburg Tuesday night.
Maura Nolan heard the stranded feline on Monday along Dutch Hill Road and called police.
Nolan and her co-worker, Madg Bideiwy, said Tuesday that they're concerned for the cat's well-being ahead of what's expected to be a stormy Wednesday.
Police spent part of the day trying to rescue the cat beneath a 200-pound grate. Each time someone approached the cat, it went into the pipe because it was afraid.
Authorities called off the rescue Tuesday evening but may try again by attracting the feline with food.
A spokesperson for the Hudson Valley Humane Society says they've rescued cats from drains before and that crews will try again.
