Famed 1980s child star turned author Kirk Cameron has requested to read his controversial children’s book in Scarsdale.
Cameron, the author of “As You Grow” and his publisher – Brave Publishing – had requested to rent a room to hold a story hour at Scarsdale Public Library on Dec. 30.
“As parents, we're being forced now to have conversations with our kids about things like transgenderism, critical race theory,” he said on Instagram. “And that's what happens when we hand our children's education over to other people, the attacks are relentless, we need to change that."
Cameron’s story hour events have faced pushback before, as an Indianapolis public library attempted to deny his request.
"The Scarsdale Public Library is committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion for all community members,” the library said in a statement. “Granting permission to use a room does not constitute an approval or endorsement of any program."
"I do agree with the First Amendment, but if nobody’s interested than they should either just not attend or stand outside and demonstrate their disfavor of his views,” added Scarsdale’s Lauren Asher.
The event is still pending because the library has not yet received payment for the room rental.
