The Kingston Fire Department is sharing more about its response efforts to clean up an oil leak after a fuel truck rolled over on Mohonk Road.

The Kingston Fire Department's Hazardous Materials Team was requested to aid the High Falls Fire Department on Aug. 15. just after 8:30 a.m.

When crews arrived, they found a truck carrying around 2,000 gallons of fuel oil had rolled over and was actively leaking toward a waterway.

The operator of the fuel truck extricated themself from the vehicle and was evaluated by EMS.

The hazmat team then quickly started to try and slow the leak.

Once it was slowed, hazmat technicians were able to work on containing the leak using oil absorbent pads, booms and creating underflow damns.
