Gov. David Paterson says the Democraticmajorities of the Senate and Assembly are still negotiating how toraise fares, fees and taxes to pay for a tentative agreement tobail out the New York City transit system.
Paterson emerged from an unannounced closed-door meeting todaysaying he still thinks a final agreement could be reached beforeWednesday. He wouldn't divulge the details of talks.
The bailout is intended to avoid double-digit fare increases andservice cuts.
Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver says he wants more capitalconstruction aid in the bailout. The tentative deal announced inthe Senate Monday night includes a small capital fund that would beaugmented in the fall.
