Kane In Your Corner: The threat of ransomwares and what you can do about it.

Ransomware attacks cost victims over a $1 billion a year, and the worst could be yet to come.
Cybersecurity experts say hackers are selling kits that make it easier for criminals to launch the attacks without much technical knowledge.
News 12's senior investigative reporter Walt Kane is In Your Corner looking at the threat and what you can do about it.
No one is immune from ransomware attacks.
Scott Schober showed Walt Kane the dark web, where hackers are selling do-it-yourself ransomware kits -- everything from malware to instruction on how to use it -- with prices as low as $3 and 99 cents.
All of it paid for in Bitcoin, so the internet traffic and payments are virtually untraceable.
Most ransomware hackers attack businesses or government agencies, but some go after people.
So what can we do to protect ourselves?
Experts say: don't click on links unless you know what they are.
Use strong antivirus software.
Pick passwords that are long and strong. Combine them with two-factor authentication, which requires a code from your phone.
Change the default password on your router and other devices.
