Family and friends gathered on Saturday to celebrate the life of an 18-year-old Bronx man one year after he was fatally stabbed in Manhattan.
Loved ones said Denzel Bimpey had just completed his first semester at SUNY Morrisville and was on a bus that arrived in Manhattan on Dec. 15, 2023.
Investigators said a verbal argument broke out between two groups, and Bimpey attempted to de-escalate the situation. He was stabbed three times.
Officials said he was left for dead while his attacker ran off.
A motive remains unclear. The family said they believe it could have been a case of mistaken identity, and with no new leads in the case, the victim’s brother had a message for the killer.
“The law is the law,” said Kevin Bimpey. “It’s going to catch up to you at some point. I know justice is going to be served. It’s just a matter of when.”
The NYPD said there have been no new updates in the case and the investigation is ongoing.
