Jury finds man guilty of manslaughter in fatal Poughkeepsie stabbing

Prosecutors said Wright caused the Nov. 2024 death of William Gearhart, 50, who was also known as “Captain Bill.”

A Dutchess County jury on Thursday convicted a man of fatally stabbing another man in Poughkeepsie in 2024.

The district attorney’s office said a jury found Shrone Wright, 52, guilty of first‑degree manslaughter. Wright is also known as “Onsight.”

Prosecutors said Wright caused the Nov. 2024 death of William Gearhart, 50, who was also known as “Captain Bill.”

The jury concluded the two men got into a physical fight that ended with Wright stabbing Gearhart once in the upper torso, killing him.

Wright is set to be sentenced in May.
