Calls around the nation, and New Jersey, to remove buildings named after Woodrow WilsonMany in Middlesex County are calling to change the name of Woodrow Wilson Elementary School. In the last few weeks, many have called for change when it comes to buildings named after former New Jersey governor, and U.S. President, Woodrow Wilson. A protest Tuesday night in New Brunswick called for the name of Woodrow Wilson Elementary school to be changed, too. Organizers say it's time to acknowledge Wilson's views on race, and implement a lasting change.
Hofstra University relocates statue of former President Thomas JeffersonHofstra University has moved a statue of former President Thomas Jefferson that has long been the topic of debate. Video shows the statue of the former president at its old location next to the main entrance of the Student Center. On Tuesday, the statue was moved to the west side of the Emily Lowe Museum. Officials say the statue was a reminder and consistent source of pain for many Black students and allies.
McDonald's, Taco Bell workers walk off the job at I-95 Darien service areaMcDonald's and Taco Bell employees walked off the job Thursday at the service plaza along I-95 North in Darien to protest what they say is systemic mistreatment. The employees walked out of work and took to the parking lot of the plaza with signs that read "No More SysteMac Oppression" playing off of McDonald's flagship sandwich, the Big Mac, and also "Essential Workers NOT Expendable Workers." Employees were also chanting "workers united will never be defeated."
3-year-old burned after being hit by illegal fireworks in HighbridgeA 3-year-old boy was treated for burns at the hospital after being hit by an illegal firework Tuesday night in Highbridge. Police tell News 12 the boy was watching the fireworks with his parents when one of them went through the sixth-story bedroom window, hitting him and burning his arm. So far, there is no information on any arrests.
