The town of Ramapo attorney is being forced to leave his job and pay a fine to settle a lawsuit brought by the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The SEC says town attorney Michael Klein helped former Town Supervisor Christopher St Lawrence cook the town's books.

The ruling from the judge comes after Michael Klein settled the case with the SEC without admitting any guilt.

Klein and two former Ramapo officials, Nathan Oberman and Aaron Troodler, were accused of hiding the town's finances and misleading auditors in building Ramapo's $60 million baseball stadium.

He has been the town attorney since 2002.

As part of the agreement, Klein must pay a civil penalty of $25,000.

He's permanently prohibited from offering municipal securities, and according to court documents, has to resign as town attorney within 10 days.

Klein told News 12 he is retiring from his position as town attorney at the end of the month.
