Police are helping a Bronx nursing home search for a patient who went missing Sunday morning.
Police say Jessie Thompson, 96, went missing from the Jewish Home Lifecare Center on West Kingsbridge Road at around 11:45 a.m. Sunday.
Staff members say Thompson seemed alert and aware of her surroundings the last time they saw her. Thompson reportedly did not want to be in the nursing home anymore and police believe her disappearance was intentional, as her room and drawers were found empty. Thompson has no family members in the area and people in her former neighborhood haven't seen her either.
The nursing home's administrator Rita Morgan initially told News 12 The Bronx that Thompson did not suffer from dementia, but later retracted that statement and said she does have dementia. As a dementia patient, Thompson would have had a device on her wrist that would set an alarm off if she left. The nursing home staff is investigating whether she was wearing one or not.
Thompson was last seen wearing a black jacket, brown pants and a black hat with white flowers. She's 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs around 120 pounds.
