The mother of fallen Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd has filed a lawsuit in connection to his death last year.
Jared Lloyd died in March 2021 saving lives as the Evergreen Assisted Living Facility became engulfed in flames.
"There's no worse way to die than the way Jared Lloyd died," said Charles Green, attorney for Jared Lloyd's mother.
His mother, Sabrail Davenport, has filed a wrongful death suit against the facility, the Village of Spring Valley, various employees of both entities and the rabbis, who authorities say were using a blowtorch to prepare the kitchen for a Jewish holiday the night the fire broke out.
"This was an event that did not need to happen. Two young boys did not need to lose their father. A mother and father did not need to lose their son. And we intend to hold accountable all those who caused the death of Jared Lloyd," says Green.
They're seeking some type of compensation for his kids.
Criminal charges continue to play out in Rockland County Court against many of the same people named in the new 30-page lawsuit that claims the defendants reckless and careless acts led to Lloyd's death.
News 12 reached out to some of the defendant, including the Village of Spring Valley and the attorney for the two rabbis, but has not heard back.
