An Industry City marketplace is bringing a taste of Japan right here to the New York City area.

Japan Village features intricate décor of Japanese lanterns and dining structures built to look like Edo period houses to give visitors an immersive Japanese experience.

"When people come here, I would say that it really is a warm and welcoming place for people of all ages to explore something Japanese, mainly for food and drinks," says Japan Village co-owner Erina Yoshida.

Japan Village is a family owned marketplace of 14 establishments that range from a food hall to restaurants like Waku Waku, and even Sunrise Mart, a Japanese supermarket.

Yoshida says Japan Village opened in 2018 to share her Japanese culture with the world.

"We opened because we want to spread awareness of Japanese culture not only through food and drinks, but also beyond that," Yoshida says. "We also host a lot of events."

As Yoshida commemorates Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, she hopes to bring people together.

"It's very important to me, especially with everything that has been going on recently in the news, but we believe that we can really bring the community together through food, and that's how we want to spread awareness about AAPI," Yoshida says.
