Janitors across the Hudson Valley are demanding a new contract and have threatened to walk off the job.

A vote authorized union workers to call a strike if a fair contract agreement is not reached by the end of 2019.

The workers in question are 3,000 janitors across the Hudson Valley and Fairfield County in Connecticut.

They are demanding a fair multiyear contract and if they don't get it by the end of December they plan to walk away from their jobs. Negotiations between 32BJ and the cleaning contractors association that employs the janitors began at the end of October, but there is still no solution.

The strike can begin any time after midnight on Dec. 31, which is when their current contracts expire.
