A Valhalla resident took a trip down memory lane as he recalled the events of D-Day.
Jack Carosi, 93, was born in Italy but fought for the U.S. alongside thousands of troops on Normandy Beach. Carosi held back tears as he remembered coming out of the water onto sharp rocks.
Carosi was just 23 years old when he fought on the front lines on the coast of Normandy. He says the water was so deep that it was up to his neck and he didn't know how to swim.
His service and bravery didn't come without sacrifice. Carosi put his own life at risk to help get word that his unit was in dire need of help. He was shot twice in the leg for his effort.
Carosi's selfless act earned him the coveted Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
