Elected leaders from across the country are talking about what comes next this morning, we are joined by Mount Vernon, Mayor Sean Patterson Howard. Good morning. Do you like the way things are going now for the Democratic Party? Absolutely. I'm, I'm really excited about Vice President Kamala Harris being our nominee or being uh endorsed by President Joe Biden. Um You know, please know I was a supporter of Joe Biden. I still am 50 years of service. Uh uh an incredible first term in office, historic local investments through American rescue plan, infrastructure for our roads, our bridges, our border infrastructure, um you know, putting into office in, into legislation, gun sense laws as we're dealing with an epidemic of gun violence throughout our country. Um Historic investment in small jobs, small businesses and entrepreneurship, uh lowest unemployment rates in, in, you know, 50 years that we're seeing in our country. And so President Biden has done an amazing job. Our Vice President Harris been side by side with him and all of that work and she has put in uh work around women's reproductive health and, and maternal health care. She has led the bipartisan discussion around immigration reform. And it was an amazing package that she put together with bipartisan leadership that was not voted in because it was so powerful and became a big threat uh to, to Trump and his campaign. So, Vice President Harris is a former attorney general. Um, she was a senator and she's been vice president for almost 3.5 years. She is the candidate going forward. I don't think we need to do a lot of debate around that. Uh Democrats have been looking for a better candidate, a younger candidate. They have one now and it's time for us to come together behind her as all 50 uh United States uh Democratic state led delegations have come behind our vice president already. We will of course, be waiting to see how this shakes out over the coming weeks and on the lead up to the convention to see if, in fact, she does become a democratic choice for president. Thank you. Elected leaders from across the country are talking about what comes next. This morning, we are joined by former Senator David Carlucci who just served in the New York 38th district. Good morning to you a day later. Everyone is digesting still. Uh How are we feeling on this Monday? Well, I feel good. I think uh President Biden did the right thing. Uh He has a strong record and with Harris being his uh his candidate of choice, she's able to run on the record that Joe Biden and her as vice president were able to deliver. And now I see the Democratic Party coalescing behind Vice President Harris. And as of last night, we already saw delegates pledging their support to Kamala Harris. In fact, multiple state delegations pledged their entire slate of delegates towards Harris. And as my count, she has over 500 pledged delegates so far and she needs to get about 1900 delegates to secure the nomination. So she's on her way. And I expect before the close of day tonight, we'll see more delegates pledged for her support. Of course, a lot of conversation about Kamala Harris within the party, but of course, you know, we've now had one day for the public to really digest this and voters as we continue to move closer and closer to the convention. Do you see this being an easy path forward for her? I do, I really see her gliding to victory right now. First, you don't have any real prominent democrats out there challenging her. We hear Joe Manchin might throw his hat in the ring. He's not even a registered Democrat anymore, any of the real top ring democratic names. They're not talking about challenging Kamala Harris. I think the fight now for those big names in the Democratic Party would just secure a spot on the ticket as the vice president to Kamala Harris. But we see state delegations, Louisiana, Florida, Tennessee. They've already pledged their entire state delegation to Kamala Harris and I think California will probably follow in suit and those are big. That's a big number of delegates. So she's gliding towards a path to victory at the convention in Chicago next month. And um I think it's going to be Kamala Harris and you've seen unity in the party, the Democrats have been united and they're united in a major thing. And that's to keep Donald Trump out of the White House for another term with just 10 seconds to go. If Kamala Harris has a path forward that you are talking about right here. Uh Is there a name you like for that vice presidential pick. It's a good question. There's a lot of names thrown out there, but I would look to someone that could pick up one of these battleground states. Is it Josh Shapiro from Pennsylvania? He's the governor. Could he help carry Pennsylvania? Is it Gretchen Whitmer out of Michigan? Could she help deliver Michigan? A lot of talk about Senator Kelly in Arizona. These are bad ground state. So I would look very closely to one of those candidates and I think there'll be a lot of polling on these hypothetical VP candidates, but they usually don't pull the ticket one gen one direction or the other, but it would probably be someone from one of these swing states so much set to happen over the coming weeks.
