A prison inmate at Wallkill Correctional Facility was “severely injured” during an incident on Friday, according to the Department of Community Corrections and Supervision.

State officials did not elaborate on the circumstances of the incident but said that the inmate was taken to the hospital by medevac helicopter, and is currently in stable condition.

News 12 received anonymous information that a stabbing occurred, prompting our inquiry, but officials have not confirmed that.  

The DOCCS Office of Special Investigations and New York State Police are investigating.
