Illinois sex offender charged with coercion, enticement of 15-year-old Dutchess County girl

A 48-year-old man from Illinois was arrested Wednesday, accused of trying to entice a 15-year-old Dutchess County girl to engage in sexual activity while he was pretending to be a 17-year-old boy online.

A 48-year-old man from Illinois was arrested Wednesday, accused of trying to entice a 15-year-old Dutchess County girl to engage in sexual activity while he was pretending to be a 17-year-old boy online.
According to the U.S. Attorney, 48-year-old Derek Hasselbrink traveled to meet the 15-year-old victim between April and July 2023 at her home to engage in sexual activity.
He allegedly committed these offenses while being required to register as a sex offender.
Hasselbrink faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison, if convicted.
